Luke 5:10 "Do not be afraid, for I am with you. For after this, you will be fishers of men."
These words are after Jesus had performed the miracle of a great catch. Jesus' calling comes after He has shown us who He is.
Jesus takes care of everything so we will not be anxious or afraid. But when we see God's light, our own sinfulness is revealed, and we end up trying to turn away from Him.
Peter also said, "Depart from me, Lord, for I am sinful. I am sinful." (This is not just an expression of Peter's sinfulness, Peter was actually feeling something deep.) Actually, Peter did not want Jesus to leave him. Peter actually said, "Get away from me but don't go. I am unworthy of you, but I need you. I am sinful, but never leave me."
Jesus surely caught Peter's unspoken thoughts, thoughts he did not understand, and brought him into the presence of God. Because Peter experienced this, he was able to follow Jesus' call. God receives even our faint and fading requests.
We have nothing to fear. We are prepared for God's healing, and God takes responsibility for and leads us in all His callings.
(All we have to do is receive what Jesus gives to us.) God has arranged everything and calls to us that we have nothing to fear! There is security, joy, and hope waiting for us!
