Luke 5:6. The fishermen did as they were told and caught so many fish that their nets almost broke."
Jesus told Peter to take the boat out and lower the nets, but Peter, a fisherman, out of pride and experience as a fisherman, did not believe Jesus' words. But he obeyed Jesus' words, saying, "It is the word of God."
The result was a great catch. It was an event that tried to convince them that it was Jesus, not them, who would fulfill the mission given to them by Jesus.
We, too, rely on what we have built up through our own experience, knowledge, and efforts. But Jesus' way is quite the opposite. We must learn to trust in God's ways, not our own.
The success of God's work does not depend on our skills, tools, or know-how. They all depend on the presence and actions of Jesus.
The God who showed us the miracle of splitting the sea in two in Old Testament times is still alive today. And the very fact that we can believe in God is a work of God and a miracle.
Jesus is waiting for us with many gifts. If we take our eyes off ourselves and change our perspective for a moment, we might notice and be inspired by the presence of Jesus right beside us.
Jesus is willing to save us, to empower us, to give us wings.
Today, on the Sabbath, why not ride on Jesus' wings and see your perspective from God's point of view? I believe you will see clearly what you have not seen before and the curtains of your heart will be fully opened. Have a good Sabbath!
