John 21:19 He said to Peter, "Follow Me."
These words were spoken after Peter was shown what manner of death would show the glory of God. I believe that Peter was also prepared before he was told of his future, but he was concerned about those who would be left behind.
The zealous Peter often veered off course because of his peripheral vision. This includes the waves in a storm and the use of a sword in the arrest of Jesus. (This is exactly who we are as fallen human beings. God already knew all of our weaknesses)
Jesus knows all about the weakness and nature of each of us. Knowing this, he offers us a way that suits each of us. (This is the expression that God will always meet us where we are.)
Like Peter, we, too, sometimes find ourselves unable to follow God's direction because we are concerned about other things, even though God has already shown us the way.
At such times, Jesus re-points us in the right direction. His words are not a command, but a call to go with Him.
The One who redeemed our salvation is in control of our life (spiritual), our death, and our future. And He is responsible for us and for our loved ones. So we can trust and follow Jesus without worrying about anything.
When Jesus calls to us, He calls to us after He has made all the necessary preparations for us. And Jesus promises to always be with us. At the end of Jesus' words, peace, hope, and joy are prepared for us in more ways than we can imagine!
