Luke 2:6,7 "But while they were in Bethlehem, Mary, when the moon was full, gave birth to her firstborn son."
Many Old Testament accounts prophesied the birth of Jesus and pointed to Bethlehem as the place. But Joseph and Mary lived in Nazareth. "At that time an edict was issued by the Emperor Augustus to all the inhabitants of the whole territory to register themselves. ....Joseph also belonged to the house of David and was of his lineage, so he went up from Nazareth, a city of Galilee, to Bethlehem, a city of David in Judea." (Luke 2:1-4)
God planned the final piece of the puzzle of this plan hundreds of years ago and revealed it to the prophet. God is working behind even the very smallest details. It may look like Emperor Augustus was the one who demanded the registration, but in fact, God was behind it.
Even now, God is faithfully fulfilling God's plan. It is not that He will do as He wants us to do, but that He is sure to save us, and that He has planned and is surely working to make salvation available to all people.
God's plan may be full of unknowns, but it is all His plan of love. If we do not refuse to be moved by God, He will faithfully and faithfully guide us.
