Luke 1:49 "For the Mighty One has done great things to me."

Mary was able to believe and accept that what happened to her was the work of the Holy Spirit. Why was Mary able to accept it in spite of all the difficulties she was expected to face?

Mary refers to God as "the Mighty One."

Mary knew "what God is like." It was not mere knowledge, but a relationship with God in experience. That is what it means to know God. Even though she did not understand God's plan at all, Mary was able to accept the angel's message because she was able to believe in God himself.

It was not so much that Mary accepted God in a solemn way, but rather that her feelings were so aroused that she expressed her joy over God's work.

Whenever we, too, catch a glimpse of the greatness of the Lord's favor in God's plan of redemption, a song of thanksgiving overflows from our hearts.

We can make our joy and thanksgiving in God an even greater joy by sharing it. We can't keep our joy to ourselves. It is the joy that comes from God that we want to share with someone!
