Matthew 1:21 Jesus said, "Name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. For this child will save his people from their sins."

Jesus is the Greek version of the name Joshua or Yeshua, which means the Lord Yahweh saves. In biblical times, names had great significance. The name Jesus contains the meaning of salvation, which is his mission. Jesus came to save us. This is His primary and core mission.

For salvation, it matters who we know. How well do we know our Savior? Jesus, our Savior, has many specific aspects: He is our friend, our defender, our priest, our king, and so on. As we experience this, we come to know who Jesus is.

We experience Jesus in our daily lives so that we can recognize our Savior, just as sheep can recognize the voice of their shepherd. And let us be confident and rejoice that Jesus is our Savior, so that we can look forward to His coming to pick us up again. Jesus was born to die for our salvation! We are made alive by Jesus' life! Jesus came to earth as our Savior to live with us!

This Gospel Reflections page is written by Masae San, a devoted student of the Bible who passionately embraces the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She shares her daily reflections on the Gospels as a way to reach out to others and spread the message of Jesus. We're sharing her message here so that you too can experience the joy that comes from the Gospel that has filled her heart.
