Matthew 1:20 "Joseph, son of David, receive Mary his wife without fear."

When he learned that his fiancée was pregnant with a child that was not his, he decided to divorce her so that he would not have to stone her or publicly humiliate her, and he pondered how to make his plan work.

It was then that God took the initiative in communicating with him and turned his plans upside down. Joseph had enough of the human nature, but I believe he was a man of faith in God.

God worked in Mary and He worked in Joseph. God worked with Mary and He worked with Joseph, making the necessary provisions so that they could choose to believe. And Joseph is the only one in this Gospel, except Jesus, to be called "Son of David," thereby confirming that the son he would later name Jesus was of legal royal lineage.

Joseph was not a brilliant and accomplished man either.

He simply accepted God's call. We too believe and accept that we are part of God's plan, that's all. That experience of ours leads to the experience of "being with God."

This Gospel Reflections page is written by Masae San, a devoted student of the Bible who passionately embraces the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She shares her daily reflections on the Gospels as a way to reach out to others and spread the message of Jesus. We're sharing her message here so that you too can experience the joy that comes from the Gospel that has filled her heart.
