Matthew 1:5,6 (New International Version) 5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, 6 and Jesse the father of King David.
Ruth was a Moabite, and did not originally belong to the people of Israel. Descendants of Moabites were not on friendly terms with Israel and were not allowed to enter the assembly of the Lord. Even after becoming a widow, Ruth vowed never to leave his mother-in-law Naomi. Ruth remarried to Boaz, a relative of Naomi's, and had a son named Obed. Obed became David's grandfather.
The Moabites would appear in the genealogy of Jesus. The genealogy of Jesus is not limited to those of superior birth. Idolaters and Gentiles are also included in the genealogy. This points to the Messiah who is coming to break down the dividing walls of generations.
If we have faith as big as a mustard seed in our hearts, God will surely receive it and incorporate it into the genealogy of Jesus. This is not because we are superior, but because Jesus covers us, and through Him we are raised as God's children. The baton of Jesus is surely still working on!
