Matthew 1:5 New International Version "Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse,"
Rahab was a prostitute. However, Hebrews 11:31 says, "By faith Rahab, the prostitute did not perish with the disobedient ones, because she welcomed those who came to search in peace."
Rahab uttered a profound confession about the God of Israel in Joshua 2:9-13. In that confession, Rahab recounted God's work in the past, prophesied about the future, and declared about the true God.
Tamar gave birth to twins, Peretz, who eventually gave birth to Salmon. Rahab, a prostitute, was a Gentile, but she repented and was saved, believing that the God of Israel was the true God.
Eventually, Rahab married an Israelite, who was Salmon. The child born to Salmon and Rahab was Boaz, the husband of the Moabite Ruth, the hero of the book of Ruth.
It is not our deeds that are incorporated into the genealogy of Jesus, but our faith. God finds the seeds of faith in our hearts, even if we don't understand them. And He will surely nurture it.
God's salvation was not in the fact that Rahab was a prostitute, but in the Holy Spirit that worked in her heart. That is how the seed of faith lives on all the time. We may only be disappointed when we see our own deeds, but God sees the seed of Jesus sown in our hearts. And it is the God we believe in who will nurture it.
