Matthew 1:2 (colloquial translation) "Abraham is the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob."
Matthew begins what would become the Genesis portion of his Gospel (genealogy) by stating that Jesus, the Messiah, is the son of David and the son of Abraham. This genealogy then continues from Abraham to Isaac, Jacob, and so on. But all these heroes of faith are flawed human beings and sinners.
God incorporated Jesus as a human being into the human genealogy for the plan of human salvation. He then died on the cross for the salvation of mankind. Since no human being in the human genealogy could save mankind.
We are flawed human beings, affected by sin, but God's mercy is greater than our flaws and mistakes! God's plan to save us, bring us back, and live with us has not changed. That plan is ongoing. It is not hastened by our deeds or achievements. Our unbelief does not ruin the plan. God's plan for the salvation of mankind is His unilateral plan and His love for us. As believers in Jesus, we are certainly included in the genealogy of Jesus.
