John 19:19 Pilate wrote a charge sheet and hung it on the cross. It read, "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.
Even though Pilate could find no sin against Jesus, he let the people go with the flow. The chief priests of the Jews were offended by this title for what Pilate had done at that time and asked Pilate to clarify that this was Jesus' own title and not a fact, but Pilate did not agree.
They may have held up this title without even knowing its deeper meaning. But it was part of a significant scene in the universe. Jesus, the King of Kings, left His heavenly palace and died on the cross as a sinner to save His people.
Because we are affected by sin, we may understand Jesus in our heads but not accept Him in our hearts. Do we accept Jesus as King of the universe? Have we turned Jesus into a magic lamp that grants our wishes? Are we accepting Jesus only when it suits us?
Jesus died on the cross for us. Jesus considered our salvation more important than all the riches and honors of heaven. Jesus went to the cross without condemning us. We should boldly rejoice and boldly boast in Jesus, who loves us so much, as my King and my Lord.
