Revelation 21:4 "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor mourning, nor travail. For the first things have passed away."
In the Garden of Eden, there was no death, no sorrow, no mourning, no travail. Sin entered the world when Adam and Eve rejected the moral covering of their Creator. Though they sinned and lived with its direct consequences-the experience of shame, the loss of purity-they sought to solve the problem on their own.
Instead of bringing them back to God, their guilt led them to their own means of atonement and self-preservation, forcing them to cover themselves. They will experience pain and death as well as fear, shame, and condemnation due to sin.
But God does not stop there! For in Genesis 3:15, God makes a covenant that brings hope of restoring mankind! God knew that man's salvation by himself was impossible, so He sent God as a human being into the world of mankind, and Jesus made the atonement that we could not. Through Jesus' death on the cross, we are given the promise that there will be no more death, no more sorrow, no more mourning, no more toil.
We were not redeemed because we are good sinners. We are all sinners, and no matter how wonderful we are in this world, we are all sinners as well. Jesus gave his life just to get us back. And then he resurrected us from the death of our sins. God's promises to us are being fulfilled one by one. God's promises to us will never end in disappointment.
