John 12:7 He said, "Let her do as she will. For I have reserved it for the day of my burial."

Mary anointed Jesus' feet with a costly perfume, enough for a year's wages, and wiped them with her own hair. Mary was so taken by Jesus' love that she wanted to honor him in the best way she could.

Mary experienced Jesus' forgiveness, compassion, and unconditional love. She also experienced something that nothing in the world can replace. When we encounter Jesus and know His love, we surely want to express our excitement and joy. And we will want to be more involved with Jesus. We will surely not only want to, but we will want to do something about it.

Motivation that springs from within, from God's grace and love, far outweighs the outwardly-placed motivations of fear and appearances, and brings out a true and free devotion to Christ.

Our devotion is not to evangelize or serve, but to share joy and gratitude. Whatever style it is, Jesus says to let the person do as he or she does. Jesus is willing to accept our heartfelt devotion. Even if it is just a smile or a greeting, Jesus accepts it as the highest devotion. Jesus certainly receives the overflowing joy in our hearts!

This Gospel Reflections page is written by Masae San, a devoted student of the Bible who passionately embraces the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She shares her daily reflections on the Gospels as a way to reach out to others and spread the message of Jesus. We're sharing her message here so that you too can experience the joy that comes from the Gospel that has filled her heart.
