Matthew 8:8 "And the centurion answered, ". Lord, I am not the kind of person who can receive you under my roof. Just say one word to me. Say one word, and my servant will be healed."
The centurion was a Gentile, but he came to Jesus, the famous Jewish teacher, and pleaded not for himself, not for his family, but for the salvation and healing of the servant. The law forbade Jews from entering Gentiles' homes, but Jesus was willing to go.
The centurion knew his place and said he was not worthy. We tend to give up in situations like this, but the centurion said that even though he was not worthy, Jesus' words were enough. The centurion believed that no one but Jesus could solve this problem, so he thought he could be healed with just a word.
Jesus' response to the problem, which was beyond the law of the time, was extraordinary, but the centurion's feelings and actions for his men were also extraordinary. Those who know Jesus are touched by His extraordinary love and feel that they themselves have received extraordinary feelings from Him.
We are ordinary, ordinary Christians, but being filled with Jesus' extraordinary love leads us to bold, extraordinary actions of sharing that love. And there will be an overflow of joy, praise, and hope, and we will taste heaven on earth.
