Matthew 26:29 I tell you the truth, I will never drink anything made from grapes until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom.
Jesus and His disciples were sharing the final Passover meal when He took the cup, gave thanks, and said, "This is the blood of My covenant, which is shed for many for the forgiveness of sins."
Before Jesus went to the cross, He gave His disciples the promise of hope. He promised not only that His blood would be shed for the forgiveness of sins, but also that He would give them an eternal kingdom and the assurance of eternal life.
The eternal kingdom is not a place in heaven, but a place of union with Jesus. Eternity is Jesus himself, and we are eternal with him. The assurance of the eternal kingdom and eternal life means that we can always be with Jesus and live in His love.
It is not obtained by our efforts or achievements, but by believing in and accepting Jesus' shed blood and His redemption through the Holy Spirit's work in our hearts. Belief is not something we can do by our own efforts or strength, but something God prepares for us in joy the more we know Jesus.
The more we know who God is, the more joy and gratitude we feel, and the more we can believe in Him with certainty through the working of the Holy Spirit with God's power. We can then wait for Jesus with the hope that He will come for us and we will share a cup of thanksgiving and joy in heaven. Jesus is coming for us soon!
