Luke 8:50 Do not be afraid. Just believe."
For us, it is not easy not to fear, nor is it easy to believe. Why is that? We are sinners who want to feel secure in what we think and believe in ourselves.
We can try hard to provide ourselves security and still get neither security nor certainty. Jesus' cure for fear is to make us choose trust over fear. How can we choose trust without hesitation?
The more we know about who Jesus is and what He has done for us, the more our trust in Him grows. When we can trust Jesus, we can trust His word alone. Then fear will go away and relief and hope will come. (Fear will go away in the sense that it does not overcome you anymore. You feel it but there is a greater power resting in you and that is more powerful than the horrors of fear and that is the assurance of God's unconditional love and presence)
We do not win by trusting our own efforts, but by looking up to Jesus and continuing to receive His light, we are given a trusting heart by God.
We need only receive God's grace.(Trusting God only happens when the Holy Spirit finally settles inside our hearts through accepting God's true love. The Holy Spirit gives us the power and ability to trust) Trust leads to confidence. Confidence leads to hope and joy. Joy transforms into healing. And fear disappears. God's miracles are surely happening in our hearts!
