Reflections from the Book of Genesis Chapter 1
Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
This is the memory verse I was taught in my early years.
Growing up it was just a simple memory verse that when you are at a church program you can recite if they ask you to recite one.
This is very short and this comes so handy to memorize as a child.
However, growing up this memory verse also grew with me. This verse meant so much more than just a memory verse. This verse is significantly loaded with meaning--meanings that makes me better understand God and His love, His purposes, and all that He could offer me.
Yes, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” This brings us to a deep assurance that everything started with God. Our story as a civilization starts with God and it was Him who caused everything to happen and to exist. It was Him who made everything out of nothing. Out of nothing means, He is that powerful, He is that great to be able to do that.
In His ability, He never missed creating the first man and the first woman. The first man and woman were not just created from a whim. They were created to serve a purpose and that is to represent the image of God and to be the image of God. Wow! This is just very awesome! This is my original purpose, this is your original purpose. You have a purpose and the one who sets your purpose is your God.
With all God’s purposes set for the first man and woman, there is this beautiful earth for them to live in.
God prepared a place for men. It wasn’t man who needed to prepare for Himself. This is the God who created you and me. The God who created and provided the first man and woman is the same God providing for you and me.
Genesis chapter 1 is a chapter loaded with the Gospel. Do you know who is this Creator? This is Jesus Christ Himself. He promised to provide from the very beginning and He fulfilled it and came to be your Redeemer. John 1:4
“4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”
You have a Creator, you have a Redeemer, and you have a Provider. Today’s life may be is pressing on you-- trials, discouragement, and inconvenience, and they are not easy to bear. Your Creator who is your Redeemer can offer freedom from the burden of your cares. He is offering a yoke that is lighter than the burden your work, your job, and your pressures are pressing on you.
Your Creator is your Provider. He promised to do it. He will make a way for you. He will provide for you according to His will.
You have a purpose, you have a beginning and that is in God. You think you maybe are far from your Creator today, be of good courage because His love for you can never afford to leave you and abandon you. His love will always suffer long until you are back into His loving arms. You are His child and He created you because HE LOVES YOU even before you were born.
Friend, no matter how chaotic your life today, your life is not a chance, your life is with a purpose. He is working in your life today.
