1 Samuel 19:18 ‘David, having escaped and found safety, went to Samuel at Ramah and told him everything that Saul had done. Samuel and David went to Naioth and stayed there.’
This passage depicts the moment when David, whose life was in danger, sought refuge with Samuel, his former teacher and the prophet.
Having escaped King Saul’s murderous intent, the first place David went was to Samuel, the man who had once anointed him as king.
This shows that, in his time of distress, David sought help not from human schemes, but from a leader who spoke God’s word (a spiritual refuge).
‘Naoth’ was a place near Ramah, meaning ‘dwelling’ or ‘lodging’.
At that time, it appears to have been a community akin to a ‘school of the prophets’, where the disciples of the prophet lived together and worshipped God.
God has prepared a way of escape and helpers for us.
If we put God first, He will respond to our intentions with the very best.
Even if we cannot see it, what God does, who sees all things, is perfect and complete.
David sought God more than anyone else and ran to Samuel.
