1 Samuel 18:11 "He brandished his spear at David, intending to pin him to the wall. But David dodged it both times."
This records a chilling moment when King Saul's jealousy reached its peak, and he directly targeted David's life.
Saul had initially favoured David, but when the people praised, "Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands," he was seized by fierce jealousy.
Here, we see the moment when that inner jealousy transformed into concrete murderous intent and manifested in action.
The Bible records just before this that "the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord came upon him."
Meanwhile, because "the Lord was with David," he was able to evade Saul's attacks.
David's twice dodging the spear emphasises that this was not merely physical ability, but divine protection.
It carries the message that he would not die until God's appointed plan (David becoming king) was fulfilled.
Those who trust in God may not always be rescued like David, but there exists a divine plan beyond our comprehension, and God deals with us according to it.
Believing that God will never forsake or abandon us, let us take a step forward in response to His calling.
