1 Samuel 8:5 "You are getting old, and your sons do not follow your ways. Now appoint a king to judge us like all the other nations."
Samuel had judged Israel since his youth.
Samuel was a just and fair judge, faithful in all his work. Yet, as Samuel himself grew old and his sons did not follow in his footsteps, the people of Israel demanded a king like the other nations.
No matter how faithfully Samuel had served, the people of Israel saw only what was immediately before them, judged by that, and devised their response.
We are the same.
When we are part of any organization, we tend to take the good for granted and seek balance by investigating causes, judging, criticizing, and condemning the bad. But this is not God's way.
We have neither the right nor the power to judge good and evil, yet we constantly desire the right to judge like God.
We should first acknowledge that this is who we are, confess to God exactly how we perceive the present situation, and then choose to seek God's will, believing in His promises and waiting.
When we realize God is working even amidst what seems unchanged, we will experience such a profound shock that we cannot hide our amazement and joy.
God is always working right beside us.
