John 2:19 "Jesus answered and said to him, "Destroy this temple, and I will rebuild it in three days. Tear down this temple, and I will rebuild it in three days."
These words are Jesus' response to the Jews' question, "What sign will you show us, that you would do such a thing?
The temple on earth was Jesus' temple and a symbol of his work.
Jesus' death on the cross for us means that He will break the chains of sin that bind us, and His three-day resurrection refers to His resurrection.
It shows us not only that the chains of our sins have been broken, but also that we have a new existence to which we are to be connected.
Jesus does not say that once he has paid for our sins, we are on our own.
He is our re-creator, guide, and finisher.
We may say that we believe in God, but we may be only formalists, or we may mix God with the world and make it up as we go along.
Yet, Jesus gives us the opportunity to change our orientation many times.
He engages us over and over again until we are sure that we are in agreement with Him.
