Daniel 2:27,28 “Daniel answered the king. 'The explanation of the secret you seek, O king, cannot be given by a wise man, a praying man, a soothsayer, or an astrologer. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and this God has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future."

Can we be faithful to the one who holds us captive?

It seems that no matter how comfortable we are in such circumstances, we are the ones who are likely to develop emotional attachments.

Daniel was loyal and faithful to all his captors.

He was more concerned about being faithful to God than he was about what would happen to his life or position.

We know that God wants us to respond in a way that is faithful to His Word, rather than reacting straightforwardly to the other person's response.

This is where we feel conflicted in our hearts.

Do we obey God or ourselves?

The issue is not the other person, but our own choice.

By nature we want to follow ourselves. But that choice is incomplete and inadequate, and so the desire to surrender to God, who is perfect, arises. (This is also the work of the Holy Spirit.)

The moment a faint light shines in our hearts, "I cannot make a good choice, but I want to follow God's will," God enters us and works in our hearts.

As a result, we become doers of God's will.

Daniel did not have the gift of dream revelation, but because he was firmly connected to God, God gave him the knowledge and gifts he needed when he needed them.

God protects and nurtures us even when we are not faithful and true to Him, but when we are faithful to Him, as Daniel was, He uses us to bless those around us more greatly. And we will be nurtured in God's love for those around us and for ourselves.
