Psalm 34:18 "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted; He saves those whose souls are contrite."

Our God is always with us and watching over us, but we may be less aware of His presence than we would like.

When things are going well, when our efforts are rewarded, when we are full of confidence, when we are proud, we may be satisfied with our own exuberance without feeling God, even though we thank Him for it. Pursuing it and expending energy for it is recognized as a wonderful thing in this world. But that is not when we encounter God.

When we fail, when we are angry and depressed, when we want to do our best but can do nothing but despair, we let out an inarticulate cry, "God help me!God help us!

Only then we can see the God who is by our side is already at work. He does not condemn, criticize, or make fun of us one by one, but gently accepts us all, encourages us, and arranges everything so that we can get back on our feet.

It is then that we realize for the first time how close God is to us.

To repent means to turn toward God.

Even if God is right next to us, we will not notice Him unless we turn our heads that way.

We will never be abandoned by God. When we feel that way, we should change our direction to a completely different direction, look for and find God who is there beside us, and grasp God's hand firmly. We will never forget the sense of security we feel when we do this.
