John 20:29 “Jesus said to Thomas. Blessed is the man that believeth not when he seeth me. Blessed is the man who does not see and yet believes."
Are Jesus' words to Thomas a rebuke?
I don't think so.
Jesus knows all our weaknesses.
He knew that Thomas could not believe in Jesus' resurrection.
That is why Jesus showed Thomas how to be sure he could believe.
God knows our unbelief and doubt. If we don't stop there, if we cast our unbelief and doubt on Him and ask Him to resolve it, He will certainly respond to it.
God opens the doors of our doubts and disbeliefs one by one when we ask Him to do so.
God would rather have us rant and rave about our lack of understanding and cling to Him than pretend to understand.
In this way, one by one, we are made to believe without having to see.
When Jesus says, "Have you believed because you have seen me?" I feel that he is reassuring Thomas that his doubts have been cleared and that he now understands.
Our God is a God who is with us at all times and in all situations, giving us peace.
