Isaiah 53:5 "He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities. By the chastisement he received, peace was given to us, and by the wounds he received we were healed."

God's plan for mankind's salvation was for Jesus to die in place of mankind.

God declared war against the "root of sin" and won.

Our disobedience and iniquity are not the root of sin, but "weakness and ugliness of our hearts" affected by sin are.

Jesus has broken the chains that hold us back from the influence of sin.

We have been given peace through Jesus, we have been healed. We have been given a different life.

Yet, we seem to live our lives as if we are in the midst of suffering, taking our weakness and ugliness as sin itself and focusing only on that.

The effects of sin in us may not disappear until the Second Coming, but it has already been forgiven by Jesus.

So we should look more closely at the fact that we are forgiven by confessing our weakness and ugliness to God through Jesus' substitution, and receive peace and healing.

Otherwise, the cross of Jesus will be meaningless.

Let us make sure we receive peace, healing, and the joy of salvation from Jesus, and take a step forward on a new path, different from the one we have been on before.

The new path should be full of joy, gratitude, peace, and hope.

We are to savor them as we walk the path to Jesus.

That is why Jesus was pierced.

Through the wounds Jesus received, He moved us from the path of suffering and despair to the path of joy and hope.
