Jeremiah 9:23 “For thus says the Lord, "A wise man shall not boast in his wisdom, nor shall a mighty man boast in his might. A wise man shall not boast in his wisdom; a mighty man shall not boast in his might. The rich man shall not boast in his riches.
Even we ourselves have lost sight of who or what we are really worshipping.
The great problem with us human beings under the influence of sin is that we tend to "rely on the ability given to us, rather than trusting in the One who has given us the ability.
Jeremiah shows us that God speaks to us in this Word.
God tells us that we are to take pride in "knowing what God is like" and "knowing that God is the Lord, who is doing mercy, equity, and justice in the earth," and that God is pleased with such things.
Worship is not to be found in the outward expression of performing religious rituals. Only God Himself can discern who or what we are worshipping.
Jeremiah 9:25 says, "Behold, such a day is coming. In that day I will punish all who are circumcised but not circumcised in heart," God says.
This is not a terrible judgment, but God's grace and love that shows us what is ahead and gives us a reminder so that we can be sure God will prepare us before we are finally divided.
God (sometimes) shows us things as they are.
This is because we sometimes unconsciously worship a God of our own making.
When we are shown as we are, let us not be discouraged, but let us turn to God, who loves us, forgives us, accepts us, reminds us, and guides us, and let us rest there. God is waiting for us to come to Him.
