Ephesians 4:21 “You have heard about Christ, you have been united to Him, you have been taught, you have learned the truth as it is in Him."

This is one of Paul's statements about the reformation of life in Christ, contrasting spiritual darkness with spiritual life.

We are told by Paul that we are to put off our old self, which is perishable because of the passions and lusts of our former life, and be renewed to the depths of our hearts, putting on the new man, made in the image of God, who is truly righteous and holy.

Paul is right, but as weak people, even though we have been freed from sin by Jesus, we still have the effects of sin ingrained in ourselves. And since we have had it as a part of us for so long, even though we know we need to discard it, it is hard for us to let go of old self and habits, and we are depressed and suffering.

God knows we can't do that.

If we stay connected to Jesus, He will make us aware of each and every one of them. When we realize something, we can bring it to Jesus. We can say, "There is still this old self in me. I can't cut it off or let it go, but I want to let it go. Jesus, help me. There is nothing you cannot do."And all we have to do is ask Jesus.

No matter how many times we ask Jesus to do the same thing over and over again, He is willing to receive us.

What we need to realize is that we cannot change ourselves by our own strength and that Jesus is the one who helps, guides, and completes us.

Our actions are the result of Jesus working in our hearts, not our strength.
