Psalm 19:14 "O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer, let the words of my mouth be pleasing to you, / and the thoughts of my heart be set before you. O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer."
The author knew from experience that God would always protect and guide him.
He not only praises God, but he knows how weak and prone to wander he is, so he asks God, his Helper and Redeemer, to protect him against the words that go out of him and the thoughts of his heart that are within him.
Often what is in our hearts and what comes out of our mouths do not match, but the Bible says, "What is in the heart comes out of the mouth."
We are constantly creating a system to protect ourselves, so we unconsciously create excuses that are easy for us to accept. But God knows everything.
When we come to God, we realize that there are many different personalities within us.
Just as we want to be one with God, we want to be one within ourselves. When we realize that we cannot do that, we turn to God.
The more we know who God is, the more we seek to have no barrier between us and Him.
God does not ask us to become clean on our own. God only wants us to realize and accept our desire to leave it behind and bring it to Him. We pray to God because we believe that He will change our hearts.
So let us choose to believe. Because God will do the rest!
