John 19:29,30 "And there lay a vessel filled with sour wine. The people dipped a sponge full of this wine in a hyssop and put it under Jesus' mouth. When Jesus received this wine, he said, "It is done."
Ellen G. White writes thus. 'It was permitted to give a paralytic to those who were to die on the cross to make their suffering go away. This was offered to Jesus, but he tasted it and rejected it. The faith of Jesus must be firmly attached to God. That was Jesus' only power. To numb the senses was to give Satan room to ride."
Shortly before Jesus died on the cross, He said, "I thirst. Jesus was referring to spiritual thirst, not physical thirst.
I believe that this "thirst" is Jesus' desire to save us until the very end. He was thirsting for the fulfillment of God's declaration of war against Satan and the salvation of the sin-bound human race.
Jesus refused to allow even the slightest blurring of this thought by the sour wine. He refused to be in a situation where even the slightest thought of us would be lost.
And when the time came, Jesus offered his life for us.
He took all the pain and suffering so that there would be not the slightest blur of his love, compassion, and redemption for us.
This is Jesus' thought and love for us.
Let us accept this love and share the joy.
God allowed the cross of Jesus to fill us with hope and joy.
We have been given hope and joy through Jesus' cross and resurrection. The Sabbath is a time to rejoice and share it with others.
Let us rejoice together
