1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins publicly, God, who is true and just, will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Why do we tell God our sins? To be saved? We do not confess our sins to God in order to be saved or to receive eternal life from God.
Our sins have already been paid for through the cross of Jesus. When we are reminded by God of our old nature, we are not to do something about it, but to ask God to do something about it, so that we may have a relationship with Jesus who redeemed us, not in darkness, but in light, a relationship without a cloud between us and Him.
When we are made aware of our old nature by God, we do not do something about it by ourselves, but we express our sins to God in order to ask Him to do something about them.
I believe that this is a way of acknowledging that we are God's creatures, that we have no power, and that there is nothing that God cannot do.
I do not believe that God wants us to express our sins, but that He wants us to trust Him and come to Him. And if we come to Him, He will cover us completely with Jesus.
The more we know God and the more we commune with Him, the less we want to put up any obstacles in our relationship with Him and the more we want to be a full reflection of His love. God's love changes our hearts and transforms our thoughts!
