1 Samuel 16:1 The Lord said to Samuel, "How long will you grieve over Saul? I have rejected him as king over Israel. Fill your horn with oil and set out. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king."
This pivotal scene marks a crucial 'historical and spiritual turning point' where the downfall of Saul, Israel's first king, intersects with the selection of David as the next king.
Samuel deeply lamented that Saul, whom he had anointed king, had rebelled against God and been removed from the throne.
Yet God urges him not to dwell on past failures or losses, but to rise up towards 'new work'.
We often feel anxious when what we hold dear is lost, clinging desperately to its continuation.
Yet even in despair and sorrow, God's plan does not cease; it constantly prepares the 'next move'.
This 'next move' was not devised in response to Saul's disobedience; it was entirely within God's sovereignty and part of His plan.
What appears hopeless to our eyes is not hopeless to God; it is the beginning of a new path.
Whether we trust that path or cling to our own thoughts depends entirely on our faith.
