(A series in the book of Isaiah: Chapter 40)
In the busyness of life sometimes it would slip my mind that I have a Creator. Many times, because I have mastered my life, my routine, my struggles, and I forget that wow, I have a Creator and I have on my side the ONE who CREATED me. Yes, that is the reality of our humanity, too often I act as if we can really handle myself as if I can really solve my problems, and as if I can manage my life.
Then, one day I came to a point of surrender when I couldn’t make out of my life anymore. I just don’t understand myself, the people around me, and the things happening to me. Then the word Creator made so much sense from that very time on. When I say made sense, that consciousness of having a Creator created a huge change in my life.
Little by little I came to trust myself less and less, I also came to study more and more what God has offered me from the very beginning of my existence—He will fight for me, I only need to be still— this mindset is too good to be true. However, indeed, when this happens it is so true.
Let me bring you to the dynamics I found in Isaiah chapter 40.
This chapter is talking about hope and comfort. And you know what was given to them as words of comfort, it was who GOD is, and who they are to God. Yes, God re-established their knowledge of Him as the Creator who is the Master planner of humanity’s existence. He is Creator and He knows everything best for all He created, from the smallest to the biggest, He is mindful of them. Most especially He is so mindful of men.
In this chapter, He reviews all He has done to His people. God was particularly reminding them of His mighty works of deliverance that signifies the first Exodus. Their life in the wilderness as a life that brought them repentance and renewal. Then, He also reminded them of the very far future and it will only be His words that will sustain His people. The word that represents the Gospel, who is Christ. The word used as His words will stand forever is developed in the progressive encounter of people with God as the Gospel who is the cure for humanity. Then, towards the very end, God had a full-blown re-imagining of who God is and what He can do for His people. He enumerated the arguments in Isaiah 40:28-31,
28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Friends, God will never stop presenting Himself to convince us of the great and mighty things He can do for us. Yes, He can do great and mighty things according to His will for your life. When it comes to saving you God will never withhold anything to give you the taste of deliverance from the power of sin. Our God is always more than willing to save you and me.
