(A series in the book of Isaiah: Chapter 13)
As you wake up in the morning you are not ignorant of the hostility and animosity existing anywhere in the world today. People and even ourselves are just growing more selfish and self-absorbed. People just loved to be exalted above others. People continue to grow in the desire to be above everybody else, in terms of politics, social status, and even religion. There is just a very natural desire to put down others and set our self-righteousness on display. We just hate to be in a low position. We even feel a sense of righteousness when those we think as our enemies are going into some troublesome times, we often label them as cursed because they are sinners and we praise God because nothing is happening with us thinking because I am faithful to God. My question is, really? Are others really are bad and we are good? This is a corporate condition of our hearts. We have collective selfishness. Do you believe in this degree of description?
I would like to suggest that I really am bad and selfish not by the grace of God I am doomed to an eviler tendency each and every day. Isaiah chapter 13 gives us the best news against the dominance of sin. SIN HAS ITS ENDING. God has HIS ultimate timeline of declaring the ending of all evil in this world. It has been a common understanding that Babylon which means confusion is a representation of the oppressing power of Satan and His evil forces. In Isaiah 13 God declared through Prophet Isaiah that Babylon will sure come to its fall. The actual oppressing Babylon kingdom and the Spiritual Babylon governed by Satan.
God precisely stated that the pride and glory of Babylon will be overthrown by God. There is a coming a day of the Lord that all sin will be totally destroyed. Isaiah 13:11,
"I will punish the world for its evil,
the wicked for their sins.
I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty
and will humble the pride of the ruthless.”
Yes, everything sinful will be punished, judged, and destroyed but not only because of the reason that people simply just did not listen to Him. It is a destruction after countless of persuasions, it is a destruction after a million times of alluring these people back to God, it is a destruction after giving the everlasting love of Christ that poured out His life and blood at Calvary. This is no simple thing to destroy evil but rather this is a thousand years of trying to get their attention, their hearts, and their minds back to the love of God. This destruction is not a happy event in the heart of God. Those evil people and even Satan were once His precious creation. God never chose to move to eradicate evil but profoundly the destruction is governed by the personal choices of people.
God’s destruction is indeed governed by HIS love. His heart is totally away from men’s governance. God is never happy to destroy His creation. It is not God’s intention to destroy, He is a God who creates, who restores, and who builds.
This chapter declares hope to those who are suffering from all the evil in this world. It is a grand hope that the dominion of sin inside and outside will soon come to an end.
Friends, things have their endings and what kind of ending we could be in is within the borders of our personal choices. The Holy Spirit is ever ready to influence and to awaken our hearts for God. Up to this moment, God is doing His best to win His people over and over again. If this is isn’t love the what could this be?
