Psalm 17:15 ‘I shall be vindicated; I shall look upon your face; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.’
These are the concluding words in which David, whilst in the midst of suffering, professes his conviction that fellowship with God is the true source of satisfaction, in stark contrast to the wicked who pursue the pleasures of this world.
The phrase ‘I will be vindicated and look upon Your face’ signifies standing before God as a ‘righteous person’ not by one’s own deeds, but by God’s grace.
In a situation where he is facing unjust accusations from his enemies, David finds his refuge in the fact that he is innocent before God, the ultimate Judge.
‘To be satisfied with beholding Your form’ symbolises a spiritual fulfilment distinct from worldly wealth or the prosperity of one’s descendants.
It demonstrates the faith that, no matter how harsh the circumstances, being with God—and one day beholding His form directly—is the greatest reward for the believer.
Do we earnestly desire to be with God?
That may sometimes be the case, but at other times it may not.
Because we are such indecisive people, it may be difficult for us to experience the fulfilment found in God, even though we have faith.
However, it is not a matter of whether we can or cannot; by seeking the fulfilment found in God day by day, that fulfilment is granted to us by God.
What we truly need is a relationship with God.
And all we can do is open the door to the path leading to God.
