Gospel Reflections #939: Because God is more able

1 Samuel 17:45 “But David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied."

This is the famous declaration made by the young David as he faced the giant Goliath. 

Goliath relied on physical armaments like "sword and spear" and his overwhelming stature.

David, in contrast, placed his complete trust not in his own skill (slingshot), but in God's "Name (authority)".

David defined this battle not merely as a personal contest, but as "God's battle" against one who had insulted God.

His basis for victory lay not in his own strength, but in God being with him.

While the surrounding soldiers were filled with "fear" at Goliath's immense size, David, through the eyes of faith, saw that God was far greater than Goliath.

Like David, we too desire to perceive reality not through our own filter, but through God's filter.

We possess no strength or wisdom of our own, but our God is able to do all things.

May we keep our focus fixed on God alone.
