1 Samuel 17:20 "Early the next morning David rose and left the flock in the care of the shepherds. He took the things his father Jesse had sent him and went to the camp. As he arrived, the soldiers were shouting their battle cry as they took up their positions."

This depicts the scene just before David set out to battle the giant Goliath, departing for the battlefield while obeying his father Jesse's instructions.

David prioritised his father's command (to bring provisions to his brothers) yet did not neglect the flock entrusted to him; he properly handed it over to the shepherds before departing.

This demonstrates David's faithfulness in small matters, symbolising the qualities that would later make him King of Israel.

David arrived at the camp precisely as the Israelite army was raising the battle cry, preparing to go forth.

This "apparent coincidence" is interpreted as divine providence guiding David to the place of confrontation with Goliath.

At this point, David was still acting not as a "hero", but as a "son" fulfilling his father's errand.

It is emphasised that this everyday obedience became the first step leading to the victory over Goliath that would shake history.

We too should strive not merely to be faithful because it is God's calling, but to approach each ordinary, mundane task faithfully, sincerely, and joyfully, recognising them as gifts from God.

Within this, surely, lies everything needed to deepen our relationship with God.
