Gospel Reflections #742: Our bearer, healer, and redeemer of our affliction.

Matthew 8:17 "He bore our affliction and carried our sickness."

Jesus is the perfect bearer, healer, and redeemer of our affliction.

This is not given to us because we have fully understood and repented of our sins, not because we have lightened our affliction by our own efforts, and not because of our achievements.

It is all God's plan of faithful and just character and is due to His one-sided love for us.

All we can do is respond to what God has done by realizing and accepting that we cannot change or save ourselves, and choosing to rely, depend, and trust entirely on Him.

We cannot fully do as Jesus did for us, but it is our rejoicing and gratitude for His work and being guided by Him to always be filled with hope and joy that makes us whole in Him.
