1 Peter 2:4,5 "Come to this Lord. The Lord has been forsaken by the people, but to God he is a chosen, precious, living stone. Let yourselves also be used as living stones, so that you may build up your spiritual house."
Jesus came into the genealogy of humanity not from the genealogy of humanity, but from outside humanity.
In reality, Jesus was abandoned by the people, but this is the catalyst for the building up of our spiritual house.
The apostles built on a solid foundation - the rock of eternity. To this foundation, they brought stones cut from the world.
The work of the builders was not without obstacles.
The opposition of Christ's enemies made their work very difficult. They had to contend with the narrow-mindedness, prejudice and hatred of those who were building on false foundations.
Our faith is nurtured in the face of similar resistance.
Our foundation is Jesus.
Jesus' foundation is a hard rock, so if we try to build a house on it, it will not be easy.
We are tempted to produce immediate results, but Jesus is more concerned with the process than the result.
It is a relationship of trust between us and Jesus.
On our own, our relationship with Jesus will remain unstable, but he will work in our hearts as we ask him for help, as we seek to really accept and follow him.
Then we take a step forward from there, with Jesus as our sure foundation.
If that step is hard to take, or if we cannot even take the step, Jesus takes it on our backs and takes the step for us.
With Jesus' foundation, we will not be broken, no matter what house we build on top of it!
