Psalm 27:1 "The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; before whom shall I tremble?"
We know from the Bible and from various experiences of faith that God is our Saviour and the light of our hope.
But we are affected by sin because of our being in the world, and we experience things every day that are crushed by the common sense and values of the world.
Because of our weakness, we often do not feel that God, who is the light of our hope, is that way, or we are insecure about whether we are really saved.
God is the fortress of our life.
The word 'fortress' is used figuratively to refer to a last resort, an important thing, place or person that plays a decisive role in the final phase of things. In other words, God is our final resort and the one who will carefully nurture our lives until the very end.
What we fear is not God, but our ego, which tries to manage by its own strength and knowledge without relying on God.
God is happy to receive us with such an ego, and He is the one who embraces us and weeps, saying, "You have come home well.
