John 1:49 "Nathanael answered. 'Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel.'"

Nathanael replied this way after being told that Jesus knew who he was and that Jesus had seen Nathanael under a fig tree before he met Jesus.

Nathanael did not say that Jesus was the Son of God and King of Israel because he was able to describe himself, but because he was waiting for the Savior, and surely the Holy Spirit was at work when he met and exchanged words with Jesus.

We sometimes pray without really knowing what we are praying for, but as we repeatedly commune with God in prayer, our faith is nurtured and the Holy Spirit leads us there so that we can be convinced that Jesus is the Son of God and the King of Israel. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God in appearance.

Jesus does not outwardly manifest His authority as the Son of God or the King of Israel, but makes it possible for us to be convinced of it through our relationship with Him. And as we fellowship with Jesus, we are touched by His character of love and are filled with peace, joy, and hope that we cannot feel in this world.
