Exodus 25:18 "Make a pair of cherubim out of hammered work, and put them on the two ends of the Redeemer's throne, that is, one at one end and the other at the other."
God indicated that He wanted to be with His people even in Old Testament times and to create a sanctuary.
God is with us, no matter who we are.
God directs us in every detail of the sanctuary.
We just take what God gives us and go about it that way.
When we human beings were building the sanctuary, we may have moved forward, seeking the meaning and God's will. However, as time goes by after the completion of the work, the meaning of the work fades away, and we sometimes fall into a situation where we do not even seek God's will.
We human beings are really weak, so when we see the sanctuary, we remember God, and when we see the cross, we remember Jesus.
God also takes care of the visual stimuli so that we do not forget God and Jesus.
However, it is not the sanctuary or the cross that we look up at, but God and Jesus who is there.
God has provided us with the Bible, the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments, the sanctuary, the cross, the church, etc., but it is not the Bible itself, but God's character and will that we must seek out and accept in order to be brought into deeper communion with Him.
The question is not what we see, but how we see.
