Mark 4:39 "Jesus arose and rebuked the wind and the lake, saying, "Be silent. Be still." Then the wind ceased and it became completely calm."
Later that evening, Jesus told His disciples to cross over to the other shore, so they left the crowd behind and rowed out with Jesus in the boat.
Most of the disciples were fishermen, so it would not have been difficult for them to maneuver the boat and read the waves and wind. We may take for granted that we, like the disciples, are confident and even proud of our human habits and experiences. But the disciples' boat encountered a violent gust of wind, and the boat was covered with waves and soaked with water.
Then Jesus responded to the disciples' cries and calmed the wind and the lake.
The disciples may have seen only "Jesus as a man", because they were seeing and thinking things in terms of their human experiences and habits.
Jesus did something here that no man could do. Jesus Himself showed His disciples what He was like.
God sometimes shakes up our old thinking, which cannot go beyond our human limitations. He punctures our common sense by showing us God's work. When we look up to God, we know who He is. God is the one who controls even nature. When we know His greatness, we are humbled. And we choose to see God with the eyes of our faith.
God shows us His works first so that we can choose Him, then He shows us God Himself, and then He respects our choice.
As we look up to God, we can clearly see that He will be right there with us and work with us.
The One who is with us is the King over the universe!
Jesus, the King of the Universe, is also our Friend!
