2 Samuel 6:2 ‘David set out from Baale-Judah, together with all the soldiers who were with him, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of Hosts, who sits enthroned above the cherubim.’

This is a significant passage depicting the start of a major national project in which King David sought to transport the ‘Ark of God (the Ark of the Covenant)’ to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.

The Ark of the Covenant had been captured by the Philistines in battle when Samuel was still an apprentice.

The Philistines kept it for seven months before returning it.

After its return, it was taken to Kiryat-Yearim and placed on the hill of Abinadab.

Having designated Jerusalem as the new capital, David planned to relocate the Ark of God in order to make it not only the political centre of the nation but also the centre of faith (the spiritual capital).

In matters of faith, both David and we alike surely share the desire to restore God—who should be at the centre of our hearts—to His rightful place.

We tend to focus solely on problem-solving and results, and act accordingly, but God values the process—His ways and His timing.

This is because it reveals who God is, rather than merely the outcome.

Even whilst burning with passion for God, if we cling to our own methods, our direction may not be truly towards Him.

God sees our motives, but whether we rely on Him or on our own strength to realise those motives depends on our faith.

We tend to rely on our own strength, but God is the One who makes us aware of this and brings us back to Him.
