Psalm 144:12 ‘All our sons are like young trees, carefully nurtured from childhood; all our daughters are like colourful carvings, the adornment of a palace.’

These are words of prayer depicting the ‘prosperity of the next generation and the ideal form of the family’ brought about by God’s salvation and blessings.

Attributed to David, this passage symbolically expresses the concrete blessings of a peaceful society following deliverance from enemies.

We are God’s handiwork, and through trials, warnings and counsel, God prepares and guides us to fulfil His purpose.

If we accept all that God has prepared for us and cooperate with Him, our character will be refined.

God has shown us the goal of His plan.

It will never change.

All that remains is for us to entrust ourselves to God so that we may be sanctified.

We must repeatedly realise that we cannot become holy by our own strength, whilst also realising that God’s promises do not change based on our successes or failures.

We are all to be made into God’s trees.

For God is the One who brings us to completion!
