Gospel Reflections #1029: When God Shall Establish You!

2 Samuel 2:4 ‘Then the men of Judah came there and anointed David, making him king over the house of Judah.’

This depicts a crucial turning point: after David moved to Hebron in accordance with God’s guidance, he was anointed for the first time as king over the tribe of Judah. 

David had been anointed by the prophet Samuel in his youth as ‘the next king’.

However, he did not immediately become king over all Israel upon King Saul’s death.

First, he was established as a local ruler, the ‘King of the House of Judah’, the tribe from which he himself came.

This shows that God’s promises are fulfilled steadily, step by step, rather than all at once.

Even when we are given a great vision or promise, we must begin with the small step right before us.

We are taught to wait patiently for God’s timing without rushing.

Ours is an age that is averse to waiting.

We also tend to dream of reaching the goal in one leap, rather than steadily moving forward step by step.

God values the process of reaching the goal.

We are quick to let our emotions dictate our actions, but we should cling to God’s promises rather than relying on our feelings.

Our God is the One who will surely fulfill His plan, regardless of our shortcomings.
