Psalm 16:10‘You will not abandon my soul to the grave, nor will you let your faithful one see corruption.’

This is a very important passage in the Bible, singing of absolute trust in God and hope that transcends death.

David, believed to be the author of this psalm, expresses his strong confidence that God will not abandon him to ‘the grave (the realm of the dead)’ or allow him to decay.

In the context of that time, it was read as a conviction that God would rescue him from life-threatening crises and illness, and grant him a long life.

Underlying this is the faith that by placing God at the centre of one’s life, one need not be dominated by the fear of death, but can live in peace.

This scripture teaches believers that death is not the final end, but a hope leading to eternal fellowship with God (the ‘path of life’).

The following scripture tells us that the ‘way of life’ is filled with overflowing joy and eternal delights.

I believe this refers not to the joys and pleasures of this world, but to the joy and delight of peace nurtured within our relationship with God.

We pray that we may continue to seek it, search for it, and knock at the door.
